History of N.A.C.T.As we all know, the Togolese Community in the U.S. has grown rapidly in the last ten years. We are now facing problems beyond our individual resolution power. Needless to enumerate any situation or name. But we are all conscious that unity with helping hand beyond our political view is a necessity. This responsibility gave birth to our group. N.A.C.T.(North American Convention for Togo - Convention des Togolais d'Amérique du Nord ) was created officially on the 7th of March 1999 in Los Angeles, California. A limited group of Togolese met in Los Angeles for three days to launch this unity tool. People came from Dallas, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco , Boston, Anaheim, Walnut, Pomona, Union City, Newman, Fremont, Santa Clarita, Sunnyvale, Newark, Long Beach, Washington DC,.... They all came with one thing in mind: how to bring success, solidarity, friendship and better future to our community. At the end of these three days, a frame work was put in place with four elected officers. For almost a year, we develop friendship among us and learn to respect opinion with progressive and organized minds. A web site was set up quickly to inform and receive feedback. In October 1999, N.A.C.T. was registered officially as a non profit organization for the welfare of all Togolese descendants living in the U.S. This is an accomplishment nobody can take away from out community. We have many projects in the pipeline:
We extend our thanks to all of you in these matters. Our commitment to you is to persevere until we reach an acceptable resolution. May the Almighty God help us. As any one year old child, N.A.C.T. just stated walking. In our view the first convention in Los Angeles was a corner stone and a very important success. Now it is almost time to meet again. Our next convention will be in Los Angeles from February 25 to February 27th 2000. We are working hard to organize the most successful convention of the year. Everybody is invited and should come to nurture our community. Please read the information on the following pages. See you in Los Angeles and thank you for your support. |
